First steps in project management

Pierwsze kroki w zarządzaniu projektami.

How to become a project manager?

Throughout my life, the topic of project management has been foreign to me. Until then – starting a new job changed everything. Several months passed before I started managing company projects. During this time, I learned about the theory and learned about various training courses that I had no idea about before.

I was introduced to the world of project management by an expert, Arkadiusz Urbański, who, thanks to many years of experience as a project manager, presented me not only the theory of project management, but also various examples illustrating the implementation of the acquired knowledge in everyday duties. Practical application of the issues I learned in everyday work turned out to be the best training.

Starting your first project may be a bit scary due to the lack of practical experience, but it is worth approaching it calmly, but also with patience and consistency. They are crucial in the entire process. There is no place for fear here, because even mistakes can be treated as a positive aspect, i.e. a lesson for the future. After all, every experienced project manager was a beginner once. When starting my first project, I was also a bit lost – I didn’t really know where to start and what exactly I should do. Fortunately, I was surrounded by the support of my colleagues. I was guided step by step, which made it much easier to take on this challenge, and if I had any doubts, I could ask or ask for help.

Thanks to overcoming fear and uncertainty back then, I now look at projects as an interesting and exciting challenge. Like every beginner project manager, I still have my good and bad moments, sometimes I lose track of certain tasks or fail to keep track of them. I continue to honestly describe my failures, but also my positive endings. At the moment I am responsible for two projects that are still ongoing, so I constantly strive to make them successful. What I learned is that you can never give up – it is worth remembering this in everything we undertake.

Although initially I didn’t know whether project management was an area in which I would feel confident, now I can honestly say that it is something I like to do and I want to devote more time to it in the future. Maybe even my entire professional career? Time will tell. Through my current experiences, I have learned that failures can often teach us the most, so there is no point in being afraid of them. They can make us better at what we do. You just need to find your way.
